Books are truly treasures everyone should look for. Good books are the lighthouses that enlighten our families, school and society. They soothe the spirit, educate the heart, improve characters, explore unknown lands, and lead us to wisdom piety and delight. At Shiperoy, reading as a skill is given a lot of attention. Learners at all class levels are taught the basic reading skills which they must exhibit during the reading sessions. The School Library is well stocked with books suitable for the nursery, infant and upper section. It is maintained by a well trained full time librarian who guides the children.
Children who are unwell at school or suffer minor injuries are treated by a qualified full-time nurse in the school Sick Bay. The sickbay is fully stocked with the necessary drugs and first aid equipment to ensure that all emergencies are dealt with in the best possible way at the school. Parents are informed of any serious injury and are contacted if a doctor or hospital visit is advised. It is imperative that the school has upto-date emergency contact details for all children on file. We also ask that children who are unwell are not sent to school as they are unable to learn and may pass infection to other children and staff members
The school has a well equipped kitchen, manned by well trained staff that serves breakfast, lunch and all meals to the pupils. Students should be there only for a scheduled time and will not be served during class time or during the change of periods. Our morning break is from 10.00 – 10.30am. And the school serves them a healthy meal of porridge. The children are encouraged to snack on fresh fruit or vegetables if they are to carry their own snacks. We actively discourage sweets and chocolate as part of our responsibility to fitter, healthier children. The school serves a lunch meal of posho and beans, a diet rich in Proteins and carbohydrates. We also serve our children a variety of dishes for change of diet on different days including rice, sweet potatoes, and some vegetables. Boarding Children stay around a healthy supper meal before they resume for their evening classes
Washrooms are meant to be places of convenience for everyone who visits them. The colourful washrooms at Shiperoy result in a creative and inviting washroom environment that the younger children will be happy to use. Our cleaners do a great job by cleaning them regularly as a full time job keeping them hygienic. Disinfectants such as dettol-liquid, harpic, jik, powder soap, hand gel etc are provided with constant clean running water to ensure that the toilets are kept clean and free from any infections. Furthermore the children are taught how to use the washrooms and to maintain their cleanliness. There are separate washrooms for the different sexes (male and female). It should be noted that the pupils have their own toilets, separate from all the other staff and visitors.
